What does the inactive status of a GIATA-ID mean?

Understand what an inactive GIATA-ID indicates, why properties are marked as inactive, and how this affects data usage, filtering, and property mappings.

What does Inactive Status of a GIATA-ID mean?

The Inactive Status of a GIATA-ID indicates that a property is no longer operational. This can happen when:

  • The property notifies GIATA that it has permanently closed.
  • There are strong indications that the property is out of business (e.g., the building has been demolished, the property has been inactive for several years, or it has been repurposed into a non-touristic facility).

Properties marked as Inactive may later reopen or rebrand. When updated information becomes available, the status is reviewed and, if appropriate, changed back to Active.

What does this mean for users?

  • Users can filter out inactive properties to ensure only operational properties are displayed.
  • The GIATA-ID remains valid and functional, providing the most recently available information from when the property was active. All mappings remain available for use.
  • Inactive IDs can still be used; they do not require activation. If your system filters inactive properties automatically, individual exceptions may be challenging. In such cases, submit the property for review so it can be assessed and reactivated if appropriate.

⚠️Note: Reviewing inactive properties manually can take time, especially for large lists. Users should allow sufficient time for this process when requesting updates.
